From Day One, My Mission Began To Change My Life

The comments and or translations that are in bold, blue, italics are from Lauren's mom.

It has been incredible to see the softening of hearts that has come as we have worked with those of our brothers and sisters here in Santa Fe. I want to do this my entire life. I find so much joy in this work. I can't even express it in words. My desire to serve the church has greatly increased and I really want to get a job for the church doing some form of international humanitarian aid in South America or Africa when I get home. I have met so many people who are involved in international humanitarian aid who are literally from all over the world.
I'm starting to understand why the Lord sent me here to serve. I thought Portland was diverse, holy smokes! Santa Fe is diverse on steroids. I love the Navaho language and so many of the other native American tongues.

Cute!
GUESS WHAT!!! I LOVE PEOPLE NOW!!! Isn't that great! I'm learning how to trust others and follow the spirit. It has been such a HUGE blessing in my life. ALREADY! seriously from day one, my mission began to change my life. I can't even begin to tell you how many miracles I’ve had the privilege of witnessing and being a part of. I love my mission. Ha, my mind is constantly turned to Elder Holland's phrase "my mission meant EVERYTHING to me." Well my mission means everything to me! I was reading in Alma 26 this morning. Ammon boasting of the Lord. Dad I can't even describe it. Sometimes I feel the spirit so strong I feel like I’m going to burst. My joy has been great serving my family here in Santa Fe. I am completely at a loss for words.

Dad and mom I love you. Thank you so much for your support and love. Both you and mom have been the EXACT parents I’ve needed. Sorry for the trouble I’ve given you sometimes. I'm turning out alright though. Thank you again so, so, so much for the Valentines day package.

Momma~
Hey momma! I just realized the other day that you grew up RIGHT by the border of Mexico. Working in border town in Texas has helped me understand you more and more each day. You have taught me a lot about how important hard work is. I have noticed that you are overcoming some trust issues that you've struggled with because of the area you grew up in mommy. I didn't realize how many Hispanics have a difficult time trusting. I hope you don't worry about me. You've taught me well so I am extremely careful here. I am learning more and more every day how to listen and follow the promptings of the spirit. I do not ignore warnings I receive and I pray more now than ever before. Thank you for how protective you have always been. Thank you so much for the testimony you have helped me gain. I love you so much mommy mom.

Your proud, loving, and grateful daughter, Gracias por todo! (Translation: Thank you for everything!)
