Forgiveness Like Repentance Requires A Change Of Heart

Mommy mom!!!
Thanks for the updates, I'm really happy to hear how well everyone seems to be doing.

That gloomy weather is a fun killer some days....meh. MOM! Just come to Texas. I haven't seen a cloudy day yet. We're in the 90s nearly every day. You'd love it.

Lex told me about the guinea pigs. I gave her some name ideas for the little one. The Thai restaurant and attending the temple afterwards sounds fun. I’m excited to go with you ladies after the mish!

On Easter we ate dinner with the Flores family. Their son scraped his knee up pretty bad and was crying. When I asked him if he was okay. He looked at me sadly for a minute and then wrapped his arms around me. Cute lil' guy! I got a note on Sunday from him that says "u or ht" ...& on the back "u or the blast women." Way funny! Kids are awesome!!

Since Jackie's baptism's a few weeks ago things have picked up. Several of our investigators have had some kind of intense thing happen to them. Jesus was hit by a car and has had a really painful recovery. I think I told you about him. Right now we're trying to help him understand who God is and the purpose of this life. Erica, a woman the previous sister missionaries before us had been teaching, has had some really terrible things happen to her in her past. She was recently baptized into a Christian church and has felt a lot more peace in her life because of it.

Forgiveness seems to be something they are both really struggling with. We have had awesome lessons with both of them where they have had those aha moments. Things start clicking which is always a huge blessing. In the March 2011 Ensign there are a few very beautiful articles on forgiveness and also a movie on mormon.org called "Forgiveness My Burden Was Made Light." Through my studies on forgiveness I’ve learned a lot about what forgiveness means exactly. What Dad shared this week about people turning from God because they couldn't feel his love tied in perfectly with what I’ve started to realize with more clarity. Forgiveness takes time. Forgiveness, like repentance requires a change of heart. With our limited understanding, we are to rely on and turn to the powers and abilities of our Savior to start that change of heart when we are unable to start taking those steps on our own. A good friend shared a quote with me by President Bednar who spoke of the miraculous power of the atonement in making up for our inability to forgive some sins as mortal beings. We are to rely on the powers of heaven to make up for what we lack. Forgiveness is hard work. It requires a great degree of humility. It may seem unfair that we  have to put in hard work when we were the ones wronged. We may not understand the reasoning behind it, but as that change of heart occurs there is a transformation within us and we become a more perfected being.

I have so much appreciation for the sacrifice of our Savior. I've been reading Jesus the Christ and have found it exciting to see how mortal his experience in this life really was. This life is so short. There is so much to enjoy and so much to learn.

Family I love you so, so, so much. Take care and keep being awesome!

Love,
Hermana Perez
